Photo Best Practices

A great portrait starts with a great photo. Follow these tips to help our artists create the best possible painting of your pet.

Recommended Resolution

Use a high-resolution image (at least 2000px on the shortest side). Most smartphone photos are fine—just ensure the image is sharp and well lit.

Make Your Pet the Star

  • Keep your pet centered and in focus.
  • Avoid cropped ears, paws, or tails (unless choosing a Bust portrait).
  • Use natural light or soft indoor light; avoid heavy shadows.

Camera Angle

For a classic portrait, photograph your pet straight on or close to a forward-facing position. Unless you want a specific stylistic angle, a near-front shot is ideal. We will paint your animal close to exactly as they appear in your chosen photo.

Backgrounds

A clean, simple background helps us capture detail—but note that we do not include backgrounds in the final artwork. Your pet will be isolated on a white or near-white background for a gallery look.

Ordering Information

Choose the composition that best fits your space. We’ll base the portrait on the photo you provide.

Full Body

Includes the pet’s entire body from nose to tail (or ears). Works best when your original photo shows the whole pet without cropping. Great for active or playful poses.

Bust

A portrait-style head and upper torso/shoulders composition. Allows for more facial detail and typically leaves more white space at the top for a clean, modern feel.
